Eco-terms explained – a glossary

The newspaper Seattle Times helps us understand some of the not so easy (and some times not so friendly) eco-friendly terminology.

This article, gives us a glossary of eco-terms, and tries to explain what it means to be green. Learn what expressions ans acronyms like VOC, PBDE, or organic cotton mean.

Maybe there should be a more consumer-friendly language refering to the green world :)

Hong Kong Promotes Eco-Friendly Tours

The Hong Kong Tourism Board goes eco-friendly! It has introduced three new eco-oriented tours under the Hong Kong Nature Kaleidoscope Programme.

Some of the new tours:

  • wetland tours in Long Valley
  • wetland tours in Mai Po
  • Northeast New Territories Islands Hopping Tour

This is probably a response to the growing demand from “green tourists”, who care about the environment and not just “going there”.

Eco-friendly products for pets

I’ve long been an environment aware person, and the related field of eco-friendly Products is a trend I’ve lately been following with interest.

In this respect, I came across a very interesting article from Press-Telegram.
According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers’ Association cited on this article, already some 70 million pet owners in America spend more than 40 billion dollars a year on their animals.

So, it’s no surprise that more and more owners are thinking of buying articles such as solar dog houses, recycled pet tags, and whole wheat animal treats.

Some of these products may still be a bit expensive, but as the market grows – and the potential is huge – the prices will tend to come down.

Here’s the full article, where you’ll find more interesting data, and quotes from happy pet owners.
